Congratulations to this year’s winners – 9th Asia Eldercare Innovation Awards

 

As part of our commitment to fostering innovation enabling us to all age well, the GCMA is proud to be the Prize of Choice for two significant awards at the 9th Asia Eldercare Innovation Awards, hosted by Ageing Asia. Our support enables two finalists to further their innovation with testing and validation.

We pleased to announce that after a vigorous selection process, and coming up against some phenomenal competition, the winners across categories were announced on December 2, 2021, at an awards ceremony held in Singapore, and include:

Innovation of the year – Product:

Japanese company, FRANCE BED for its Multi-Position Bed, which has been developed to support people as they age live comfortably. The innovative bed has been designed with the elderly and caregivers in mind, as it assists people move from a sleeping position into a standing position with the push of a button.

Unlike conventional beds, the Multi-Position Bed moves to assist people onto the soles of their feet, meaning the are not required to twist their bodies to get on and off the bed. It also means caregivers are not required to climb onto the bed to help people get up off the bed. 

Speaking to the innovation, GCMA CEO Julianne Parkinson explained that the innovation shown in the Multi-Position Bed has been considered and demonstrates significant benefits in supporting older people stand up, without putting their body into uncomfortable positions, while at the same time, it allows them to keep their dignity, as they don’t have to be helped out of bed or picked up by caregivers. 

“The Multi-Position Bed is a unique and important innovation that promotes rehabilitation of injured or ageing people, while supporting their independence, which is extremely important. We want to extend our congratulations to FRANCE BED for their win, and look forward to working with them over the coming months,” said Julianne. 

 

Startup Stadium Winner:

Opsis which was co-founded and is headed up by CEO, Mr Andrew Ow is a Singaporean company dedicated to improving lives through the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI). 

The startup stadium winner for 2021 is the Opsis Emotion AI, which Opsis designed specifically to support healthcare professionals treat and deal more effectively with mental health issues experienced by people who “suffer in silence”.

The intention of the technology is to prevent behavioural and psychological deterioration, and to improve the lives of seniors. Using AI, the product detects mental health concerns or problems in a short period of time, reducing the time to determine mental health from an hour to around 15 minutes. The model is a healthcare grade Emotion Analysis tool with multi-dimension points for early intervention in mental health.

Julianne and the GCMA want to extend our congratulations to Opsis on the win.

The innovation and importance of a tool like Opsis Emotion AI to support and improve mental wellbeing in seniors cannot be understated, and they are a well deserving winner.
